Event to look at arbitration in energy disputes

Law Society Skillnet is holding a seminar on international arbitration in the energy sector next week.

The online event takes place on Monday 16 June (5pm-7pm) and is worth two general CPD hours.

The seminar, organised in collaboration with Arbitration Ireland, will provide a detailed overview of international disputes involving energy, one of the most important fields of international commercial and investor-state arbitration.

It will focus on practical aspects of this area of international arbitration and is aimed at equipping attendees with practical knowledge and insights they can use in the future provision of services for clients involved in the energy sector.

Law Society Skillnet says that the seminar is suitable for solicitors and barristers with some experience of international arbitration and those who are new to the area.

Topics include:

  • An introduction to energy arbitration, and its importance historically and in today’s world,
  • Case studies and principles linked to energy disputes involving electricity (including both solar energy and wind energy), and

Sean McCarthy BL, who is an Irish barrister, New York attorney, and international arbitration consultant, will chair the event.

The speakers are:

  • Rahul Donde (RD Disputes, Geneva, and energy-arbitration lecturer, University of Lausanne), and
  • Trisha Mitra-Veber (Reed Smith, London, and co-founder of ENERAP UK).
