Philip Lee adds New York to its network

Commercial-law firm Philip Lee LLP has added New York to its network through a partnership with Skylight Law LLP, which is based in the US city.

The US firm will now operate as Philip Lee (US) LLP and will be led by Michael Byrd and Ryan Covington.

Philip Lee says that the firms’ combined offering will initially focus on climate finance, carbon-project development. and climate-tech venture capital.

The firm, which has offices in Dublin and London, says that its combined practice is now one of the largest dedicated climate-law practices in the world.

‘Important moment’ for growth

Philip Lee adds that its team will support a broad range of clients, from project developers to institutional investors who are committed to deploying capital in carbon-removal and reduction projects.

Managing partner Jonathan Kelly described the addition of New York to its network as “an important moment in the growth and expansion of the firm”.

“Some of the most interesting work in climate finance and carbon projects development is happening in the US.  With our expanded capabilities we are in a great position to capitalise on a rapidly developing area of expertise for us,” he stated.

European market ‘critical’

Before setting up Skylight Law LLP, Byrd and Covington, together with counsel Jordan Baber, worked at international law firms that included White & Case and CMS UK.

Byrd and Covington described Europe as “a critical market” for their clients.

“Philip Lee LLP’s presence in, and deep experience across, Europe will amplify our ability to help clients unlock critical partnerships, capital, and project-deployment opportunities in Europe,” they added.
