Courts Service lunch event to mark Africa Day

The Courts Service is to hold a ‘lunch and learn’ event in Dublin on Friday 23 May to celebrate Africa Day.

The in-person and online event takes place in Court 29 in the Four Courts at 1pm.

A round-table discussion will focus on access to justice and the relationship between Ireland and African countries in their respective justice systems.

The speakers are:

  • Ms Justice Mary Rose Gearty (judge of the High Court),
  • Femi Daniyan BL (barrister and chair of the Equality and Resilience Committee at the Bar of Ireland),
  • Sandra Mpanyira (project officer in Ballymun Community Law Centre and former human-rights lawyer from Zimbabwe),
  • Bashir Otukoya (EU lead, legal research and library services, Courts Service),
  • Naomi Canniffe (Office of the DPP and former prosecutor from Namibia), and
  • Sean McHale (Irish Rule of Law International).

Lunch, featuring west African food, will be available in the jury room beside Court 29 before 12.45pm.
