Global law firm Eversheds Sutherland (International) has announced plans to launch what it describes as its “new operations” in Ireland with offices in Dublin and Belfast from September 2025.
It said that the Dublin office would be led by partner Pamela O’Neill and the Belfast office by partner Gareth Planck.
A statement from the global firm came as news emerged of a breakdown in merger talks announced late last year between William Fry and senior representatives of Eversheds Sutherland’s Irish division.
A separate statement from Eversheds Sutherland Ireland on the talks with William Fry said: “After careful consideration, we have agreed that the interests of our respective firms are best served by remaining separate. Both firms will continue to focus on their individual strategic growth priorities.”
Eversheds Sutherland (International) said today (29 May) that the firm’s new Irish practice would be full-service, and that the initial phase was likely to see up to 20 partners involved in the launch.
“It will be fully integrated into the firm and will be branded Eversheds Sutherland,” the firm stated.
International chief executive Keith Froud said: “I am pleased to announce this key, strategic investment underlining our long-term commitment to Ireland, which is an important market for our clients and our firm.
“It was vital to us that we launch our new operations with the best team possible in both Dublin and Belfast who share our global ambitions,” he added.
