CSSO opens essay competition for students

The Chief State Solicitor’s Office (CSSO) is accepting entries for its third annual essay competition for law students, with a first prize of €500.

The competition is open to current undergraduate degree students of law enrolled full time in a third-level institution in Ireland.

The essay title is: “As Ireland takes up the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, please describe the impact of the EU constitutional order in shaping law in Ireland”.

Public Law Conference

The second prize is worth €250, with a third prize of €150. The three prize winners will be invited to the annual Public Law Conference 2026.

The essay can be submitted in English or Irish and must not exceed 2,000 words – excluding bibliography and footnotes.

The essay must be accompanied by an entry form.

The closing date for entries is 5pm on 28 March.
