Commercial-law firm Philip Lee LLP is to merge with Cork-based corporate-law firm BHK Solicitors LLP, in a deal that will bring the numbers of partners at the combined firm above 50.
Philip Lee described the merger as “a significant milestone” in its continuing expansion.
BHK Solicitors LLP was founded nine years ago by Patricia O’Brien, Gavin Hinchy, and David O’Keeffe. The firm has particular strengths in property, corporate transactions, and litigation services.
From 1 February, the combined firm will trade as Philip Lee LLP.
The firm said that the merger was driven by Philip Lee’s ambition to better serve its growing client base in Cork and the wider Munster region, coupled with the ambition of BHK’s partners to have access to the resources, expertise, and infrastructure needed to support its expanding client base and increasingly complex business demands.
Philip Lee said that the deal would create a multi-disciplinary legal practice in Cork that was capable of meeting the demands of the many domestic and international firms in the area.
Jonathan Kelly (managing partner of Philip Lee) described the merger as “a natural next step’ in the firm’s growth plans.
“Cork is a vibrant, ambitious city and we are delighted to strengthen our connection with it,” he stated.
BHK partner Patricia O’Brien said that the firm’s clients would benefit from the expanded expertise and resources, “while our team will have new avenues for professional development and collaboration”.
