Apartments lead 20% jump in homes completed

Official figures show that the number of new homes completed last year was the highest since the figures began to be collected in 2011.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) said that there were 36,284 completions in 2025 – an increase of 20.4% compared with 2024.

Almost 58% of the new homes completed were in Dublin or the mid-east (Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow).

A breakdown of the figures showed that:

  • The number of apartments completed in 2025 was 12,047 – up 38.7% from 2024,
  • There were 18,308 housing-scheme completions – a rise of 13.1%, and
  • There were 5,929 single dwellings completed – up 12.5%.

Apartments up 60% in Q4

In the final  quarter (Q4) of 2025, there were 11,994 completions – an increase of 38.5% compared with the same period a year earlier.

Apartments completed rose at an annual rate of 60.7% in Q4 of last year, while there was a 30.3% increase in houses completed as part of schemes.

The CSO figures are based on the number of domestic dwellings connected by the ESB network to the electricity supply.
