Revenue to be ‘pragmatic’ on storm impact

Revenue has said that it will take a “pragmatic” approach to taxpayers and businesses affected by Storm Chandra.

In a statement, the tax authority said that it was aware that the exceptional weather conditions associated with the storm had caused difficulties for many taxpayers and businesses and could affect timely tax compliance.

Revenue said that it would work with those hit by the storm to ensure that good compliance records could remain on track, despite the disruption.

‘Challenging and worrying time’

Noel Brett (head of business division) described the recent storm as “a challenging and worrying time for many”.

“Revenue will adopt a pragmatic approach where businesses have been adversely impacted as a result of damage caused by the weather conditions,” he stated.

“Revenue has a strong track record in successfully agreeing flexible payment arrangements where taxpayers and businesses are facing temporary cash-flow difficulties, and we will work with those affected by Storm Chandra to take their financial circumstances and capacity to pay into account,” Brett added.

He advised affected taxpayers and businesses to contact the Collector-General’s office to agree “mutually suitable arrangements to restore timely tax compliance”.
