Small-practice scheme open for applications

The Law Society’s Small Practice Traineeship Grant, which was created to support regional law firms, is now open for applications.

The grant is valued at €25,000 and awarded each year to a number of firms after a competitive process.

To be eligible for the grant, a firm should:

  • Be located outside of the City and County of Dublin and the urban districts of Cork, Limerick, and Galway,
  • Be a small firm, consisting of five or fewer solicitors (including principal, partners, consultants, and employed solicitors),
  • Be able to comply with the related/connected persons rule as set out in the scheme, and
  • Agree to pay the trainee at least the living wage (currently €15.40 per hour).

The closing date for applications is 29 May and forms can be downloaded from the Law Society website.

Law Society President Rosemarie Loftus recently urged trainee solicitors to consider training with firms in rural areas.
