Cork-based JW O’Donovan LLP has announced a merger with Eamon Murray & Co Solicitors, in a move that will increase its staff numbers by 40%.
It has also announced the appointment of Anne-Marie Linehan as managing partner, taking over from Jerome O’Sullivan, who will continue to lead the firm’s commercial-property team.
JW O’Donovan says that the merger represents the next phase of growth for the firm, which moved to larger offices at 27 South Mall in late 2024 to accommodate future growth.
The combined firm will now comprise 20 solicitors and a total team of 35, representing a 40% increase in headcount.
The Cork firm has indicated that further expansion, whether through strategic acquisition or additional recruitment, is also likely as it continues to develop its core practice areas.
Established in 1931, JW O’Donovan operates throughout Ireland, providing advice in corporate and commercial law, banking, litigation and dispute resolution, commercial and residential property estate, employment law, and private-client services.
Cork practice Eamon Murray & Co was founded in 1982. JW O’Donovan says that the deal “significantly enhances” the firm’s capabilities in property, litigation, and private-client work.
“Two years ago, we made a strategic decision to invest in larger, modern offices to create capacity for growth. This merger is a natural next step,” said Linehan.
She described Eamon Murray & Co as “a highly regarded Cork firm with a long-standing reputation for integrity and strong client relationships”.
A UCC law graduate, Linehan joined JW O’Donovan in 1996 and became a partner in 2003.
She advises both corporate and private clients across property, construction, banking, and finance. She also lectures and hosts seminars on property-law topics.
An active member of Cork’s business community for more than 30 years, Linehan has served on the board of Cork Chamber for the past three years.
Linehan said that she was taking on the role of managing partner at “an exciting time” for the firm.
