The Law Society Library and Information Service's latest service for solicitors, 'Trending Legal Queries' is now available.
Solicitors can stay up to date with the latest information on trusted resources available from the library covering frequently asked questions for areas of law.
Each topic featured consolidates information on applicable legislation, leading cases, relevant book extracts and journal articles by leading experts in the relevant field of law, recent precedents and practice notes (where applicable), as well as links to useful external organisations.
This new service aims to support solicitors in their day to day practice whether they are looking to get up to speed on a topic not currently within their area of expertise or wish to save time looking for useful resources on a topic.
Relevant book extracts that can be accessed via Law Society Library eBook platforms will be indicated for each topic, where appropriate.
The library now provides access for members to the Thomson Reuters ProView platform which includes titles from Round Hall's Irish law texts series.
The library also provides free access for members to copies of unreported judgments from the superior courts.
Links are provided to any sources that are publicly available.
This new service is launching with three initial topics covering assisted decision-making, rights of residence and enduring powers of attorney.
In future, the library plans to add one topic per month, with each new topic circulated via our fortnightly newsletter, LawWatch.
Topics added are based on commonly asked queries that the library has received from our solicitor members.
Library staff also welcome suggestions from members on topics that they would like to have added in the future.
A complimentary new page 'Finding Law Sources' assists members in navigating free online tools to quickly access legislation, case law, and open-access Irish legal journals.
This page can be used in conjunction with the library's recently published subject guide on Legal Research and Writing Skills that delves into legal research resources in more detail.
The ‘Trending Legal Queries’ database complements the library's existing suite of twelve subject guides that cover broader topics including conveyancing, probate, criminal law, employment law, artificial intelligence and environmental and planning law.
The library’s subject guides can be accessed via this page: Law Society Subject Guides
