Trinity role for Mr Justice George Birmingham

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) has welcomed the appointment of Mr Justice George Birmingham as the university’s new Judicial Visitor.

The Judicial Visitor, appointed by the Government, hears internal appeals against decisions made by the college’s board and other bodies. Holders of the role also interpret, and approve amendments to, the College Statutes.

Shared responsibility

Mr Justice Birmingham will share this responsibility with the Chancellor Dr Mary McAleese, who is the other Judicial Visitor. Dr McAleese has welcomed the appointment.

Mr Justice Birmingham is an ex officio member of the Supreme Court as President of the Court of Appeal. He served as a Judge of the High Court from 2007 to 2014, when he was appointed to the Court of Appeal.
