Brexit letter sent to 225,000 businesses

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar (pictured) is to write to every business registered in Ireland advising them to make sure they are ready for Brexit.

A letter setting out what firms need to do to get their business ready for Britain’s departure from the single market and customs union will be sent to around 225,000 businesses registered with the Companies Registration Office over the coming days.

The letter will include a checklist with information on how and where businesses can find out what action they need to take on issues such as customs changes, their supply chains and product certification.

It will also tell firms how they can get an EORI (economic operators’ registration and identification) number.

Grants and advice

The letter will also include information and contact details to help businesses access Government grants and advice.

The Tánaiste said that while the UK left the EU on 1 January this year, most businesses did not experience any immediate changes because of the Withdrawal Agreement and the transition period.

“That’s about to change in a very big way,” he warned.
