Department of Justice drops ‘equality’ from its title

The Department of Justice and Equality has changed its name, as of 1 November, to the Department of Justice.

A statutory instrument, SI No 452/2020, was signed on 1 November, effecting the change.

In Irish, an Roinn Dlí agus Cirt agus Comhionannais, is now known as an Roinn Dlí agus Cirt.

Two pillars

Last year, the Department moved to a new model under two pillars – civil Justice and criminal justice – each led by a deputy secretary general.

Further details can be found in the Department of Justice Strategy Statement 2016-2019.
