Dublin Bikes electric option comes onstream this month

An electric DublinBikes option (e-dublinbikes) will be launched in the capital on 30 March.

E-DublinBikes are hybrid electric bikes that offer motorised pedal assistance when cycling up hills or against headwinds, and are a good alternative for people who find it challenging to cycle on a traditional bike.

Existing subscribers may sign up to the new service from 8 March in order to  receive a personal portable battery in time for the launch on 30 March. To add the electric option will cost €60 per annum.

Those who sign up will receive a portable battery at the address linked to the Dublin Bikes account.

Model

The electric model will be identifiable by a blue basket at the front of the bike and within the app by a small ‘lightning’ symbol.

The portable battery is inserted into the slot in the basket of the electric bike and provides electrical assistance for up to 8km when fully charged.

The battery is small enough to fit into a jacket pocket or a small bag, and is equipped with a USB-C port so it can be used to charge a mobile phone or tablet when not in use on a bike.

Full details will be available on dublinbikes.ie from 8 March.
