Solicitor Keane joins Central Bank body

Solicitor Sarah Keane, the current president of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, has been appointed to the Central Bank Commission following a Cabinet meeting earlier this week.

The Department of Finance said the Chief Executive of Swim Ireland (pictured) had international experience in governance and gender equality issues, as well as general extensive experience in corporate management and governance.

Five-year terms

The former General Secretary of the Fórsa trade union Shay Cody, and Professor David Miles of Imperial College Business School London, will also join the commission for five-year terms, with all three appointments coming into effect on 1 December.

The Central Bank Commission is responsible for the management and control of the Central Bank’s affairs and activities.

Mr Cody and Prof Miles were selected after a process run by the Public Appointments Service, while Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe received approval from the Government to appoint Ms Keane through a derogation in the process of appointing members of State boards.

The Department of Finance said the appointments were in line with the requirement to have regard to the skills, diversity and gender mix within State boards.
