Tax experts are being sought to join an EU list of independent persons who will be involved in a new system for settling double taxation dispute between member states.

Under the Dispute Resolution Mechanism (DRM) Directive, EU countries must nominate “independent persons of standing” to service on ad hoc advisory commissions.

Three nominees

Ireland is entitled to nominate three people, and the Minister for Finance is now inviting expressions of interest from individuals with “a deep understanding of complex tax matters”, specifically corporate, income and capital taxes, including the interpretation and application of double taxation treaties, and tax treatment of cross-border transfer pricing.

An advanced legal or taxation qualification, and experience at a senior level in a relevant business, professional practice, or tax administration role would be an advantage. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 27 January.

The directive was transposed into Irish legislation through the European Union (Tax Dispute Resolution Mechanisms) Regulations 2019 and the European Union (Tax Dispute Resolution Mechanisms) (Amendment) Regulations 2020.
