Two barristers nominated as District Court judges

The Government yesterday agreed to nominate barristers Joanne Carroll and Cephas Power for appointment as ordinary judges of the District Court.

The first vacancy arose following the retirement of Judge Constantine O’Leary on 1 November last year. The second arose following the retirement of Judge Anne Ryan on 2 January.

Mediator

Joanne Carroll studied for a BL Degree from Kings Inns, in 1992, having graduated in European Studies in 1985. She was appointed junior counsel in 1992 and is also qualified as an accredited mediator.

Cephas Power has been a law lecturer at Waterford Institute of Technology since 2005. He gained his Barrister-at-Law degree from King’s Inns in 2006 and was appointed junior counsel in 2006.
