UCD launches innovative dispute resolution diploma
UCD’s Sutherland School of Law has launched a Professional Diploma in Dispute Resolution (Mediation), a new fully online programme.
As an offering for those seeking to work in dispute resolution, UCD has partnered with online education start-up Mediator Academy.
The course will have a rapid delivery to meet the demands for quality education in this area, which is seeing exponential growth at home and abroad.
The programme focuses on mediation as a dispute resolution process, use of which is now widespread in Ireland, thanks to adoption of the Mediation Act 2017.
The combination of the pandemic and Brexit have triggered a surge in disputes for which businesses demand rapid resolution.
This surge is being exacerbated by lockdown-related court closures and delays.
Practical approach
The UCD programme takes a practical approach and features a global faculty of expert practitioners working at the cutting edge of dispute resolution.
Candidates may study in their own time, to fit in with their work and family commitments.
Commenting, Professor Imelda Maher (Dean of the Sutherland School of Law) said: “It is wonderful to be doing something so innovative in such times that seem stagnant.”
Important learning
“Every organisation needs people with these skills. We are delighted to partner with Mediator Academy to be able deliver this important learning in a new way suited to the demands of a wider audience, at home and internationally.”
Applications have opened and the programme commences in June 2021.
