Wendy Doyle

Principal at Wendy Doyle Solicitors

Wendy DoyleI always had a passion for law but equally wanted to gain a business qualification which I believe is invaluable in advising clients and finding the best solution for them.

I attended University College Dublin and started my career in tax and was fortunate to become one of the first apprentice solicitors with Evans & Company Solicitors (which ultimately became Landwell Solicitors (an independent law firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers).

I worked with a number of well respect lawyers who had come together to form the practice and gained invaluable experience and guidance from working closely with Jim Trueick (currently of Eversheds).

After qualification in 2003, I worked as an employment lawyer with William Fry Solicitors and made a lot of wonderful friendships which remain strong today. Ultimately I moved to Deloitte and set up an employment law practice there which I loved.

Sole Practitioner

In 2010, I set up as a sole practitioner and opened an office in Baggot Street before moving to my current location on 3-4 Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin 2. It has been challenging at times, especially setting up when the recession hit, but I consider myself very fortunate in that costs were low at the time which is key to establishing a business.

I initially specialised in employment law but have undertaken a number of other qualifications including completing Diplomas in Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property and Information Technology, qualifying as a Registered Trade Mark Attorney and recently completed the Certificate in Pensions Law. I am also currently completing the AITI Chartered Tax Adviser qualification. I highly recommend the Law Society’s diploma courses and urge those qualifying or indeed qualified to continually expand their knowledge base.

The Future

I have a number of plans to expand the practice but I do believe it is not possible to be a “master of all trades” today. I am particularly focused on specialities or niche areas as I believe the legal market is very much moving in this direction. I am also passionate about marketing and social media to promote the practice.

Advice

My advice to anyone thinking of embarking on a career in law or about to qualify is to try and get as much experience as possible in as many areas of law as possible to find your passion. Try and get involved in assisting non-profit organisations and offer to spread your knowledge and experience around!
