The Law Society of Ireland is seeking to recruit an experienced Head of Post Qualification Education. You will supervise and manage the diploma centre and professional training to ensure greater collaboration and integrated delivery of programmes between the two teams. The section will be responsible for offering more than 35 accredited programmes and in excess of 100 continuing professional education programmes.

Initial work will focus on integrating the two sections, pooling marketing expertise and cross promotion. Ongoing work will propose new offerings, ongoing review, quality control and promoting innovation. Candidates will be required to have knowledge of and experience of legal work as well as an educational and management background.

Main duties and key responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform the following duties in line with The Law Society’s standards and strategic objectives and as directed by the Director of Education.

The Head of Post Qualification Education will be overseeing the roll out of the strategy for post qualification education and bringing together the work of 17 employees. 

  • Oversee and manage provision of all post qualification education ranging from conferences, seminars to accredited programmes (micro-credentials, certificates, diplomas and degree offerings).
  • Manage the development of new programmes and courses.
  • Review and further develop the online courses provided by The Law Society.
  • Review current collaborative educational partnerships and develop further programmes with other institutions.
  • Manage and develop a programme of quality assurance for diploma and The Law Society Professional Training courses.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Pre-Qualification Education on the introduction of new routes to qualification involving accredited courses.
  • With the Head of Pre-Qualification Education and the Director co-ordinate the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Innovation.
  • Carry out a periodic critical analysis of the programmes offered by the Law Society and make recommendations for change and improvement.
  • Promote best practice and innovation across the range of post qualification educational offerings.

Knowledge and skills

  • Proven experience of managing programmes in a Post Qualification Education setting.
  • Excellent leadership and motivation skills to advance employee engagement and develop a high-performing managerial team.
  • Experience of working flexibility across an organisation on a range of initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • A collaborative style, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • An exceptional command of the English language.
  • Post graduate certification at Masters level would be an advantage.
  • A legal qualification would be an advantage.
