Supermacs Ireland Limited is looking for a Locum solicitor either on a full or part time basis, for up to 3 months. The position requires an immediate commencement (December) to assist in continuity of legal work, litigation, and provide ongoing legal support to the organisation, whilst a more long term solution is sought.

The Solicitor will manage the investigation and coordination of information between the company and insurers, adjusters, engineers, solicitors, leading to a final decision in terms of the claim and the successful defence or settlement of same in conjunction with the company legal experts.

In addition, you will be asked to contribute to other areas where your legal expertise and past experience will add value. This may be in the area of commercial and residential conveyancing, landlord & tenant law, licensing, civil litigation, commercial litigation,, GDPR, employment law, commercial contracts, banking and financial services. 

Nature of the job: 

  • Proactive end to end investigation and management of all reported incidents and accidents from all our stores/businesses.

  • Early investigation, CCTV review, statement gathering and assessment regarding liability. This involves attending on site, reviewing, photographing, gaining CCTV downloads, and gathering all relevant information at the earliest possible opportunity.

  • Engage with insurers and where relevant external solicitors on litigated files and pro-actively manage a portfolio of ongoing issues, together with investigation of all new incidents.

  • Work as part of a team, liaising with internal and external personnel in a professional and proactive manner including attending engineering inspections as and when required.

  • Providing training and guidance to all managers in terms of accident prevention, best practice, and reduced incidents. This involves sharing statistics, setting targets, and highlighting ongoing issues that are dangerous or can cause difficulties.

  • Understand the litigation process, experienced in attending court, meeting timelines, and ensuring correct documentation and its accuracy.

  • Must be organized, acting as own secretary, must file and retain relevant information, keep up to date files and provide monthly updates in terms of the overall claims picture.

  • Must be able to prioritise, communicate important information to manager, and understand potential of all accidents/incidents.

  • Be proactive, communicate hazards, and find solutions to remove/reduce, thus reducing unnecessary incidents and accidents.

  • Good understanding of landlord & tenant law.

  • Experience in reviewing and dealing with commercial contracts.

  • Advise on compliance with GDPR and liaise with DPC as and when required.

  • Experience in handling a broad range of employment law matters and attend at WRC hearings on behalf of the company instructing external solicitors/barristers as required.

  • Good knowledge of commercial and residential conveyancing.

Candidate requirements

  • A Practicing Solicitor, holding a current valid practicing certificate with the Law Society of Ireland.

  • Experience in a similar In-House Solicitor role.

  • Practical understanding of the legal systems in Ireland and its application in terms of personal injury, liability and proofs in particular.

  • A good understanding of the obligations on an employer/ business owner in terms of Health & Safety Legislation, experience in dealing with Commercial and Residential Conveyancing, Licensing, Civil Litigation, Commercial Litigation, GDPR, Employment Law, Commercial Contracts and, Banking and Financial Services.

  • Review and update Franchise Agreements.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and interact with non-legal personnel.

  • Ability to investigate, negotiate, assess, and finalise matters based on sound judgement and facts.

  • Ability to work on initiative, set targets for self.

  • Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills.

  • Coordination of court documentation, witnesses, CCTV and relevant information as and when required to ensure all preparation is complete for court to achieve most desirable outcome for the organisation.
