The QLTT comprises exams in the following subjects:

• Constitutional Law and Company Law or Criminal Law
• The Law of Contract and the Law of Tort
• The Law of the European Union
• Land Law and Conveyancing
• Probate and Taxation
• Solicitors’ Accounts
• Professional Conduct (oral examination by Zoom)

The QLTT is held twice a year in Summer and Winter. It is held online. Details of the November 2025 sitting are given below. Information about the 2026 sittings will be available shortly.

November 2025

Applications for the November QLTT are closed.

In order to take the QLTT you must first obtain a Certificate of Eligibility.

Required documents and fees

The following documents must be submitted as part of your application:

1. Completed application form
2. A copy of your Certificate of Eligibility
3. A copy of your passport or driving licence

Once your application has been approved the Law Society of Ireland will provide you with its bank account details and the relevant application fees can be paid by EFT.

The QLTT is held online. You must check that you meet the minimum technical requirements.

It is recommended that you sit your examination in a quiet room, with no pass-through traffic or unwanted distractions.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient internet connection and speed for each exam.

Examination Rules

You must be available up to 30 minutes before the scheduled examination start time.

You are not permitted to communicate with anyone externally during the examination.

You are not permitted to leave your workspace during the examination.

Your webcam and microphone must remain on (live) during the examination.

You are not permitted to have any other applications open on your computer during the examination.

Required items:
Your phone (which should be off and face down unless you encounter an issued during the examination and need to contact a member of the Law Society).
Photo ID (passport or driving license).

Clock or watch
Smart watches

Applications for the November QLTT are closed.

Examination Recheck fee: €150 per paper.

Examination fees cannot be transferred to another sitting of the QLTT examination. A refund of examination fees will only be given to candidates who produce medical evidence (i.e. a medical certificate from a GP or consultant) for non-attendance. No refund will be given if a candidate is present for the examination/logs on to the examination, regardless of whether any of the examination questions were attempted.

Requests for refunds together with supporting documentation must be received within one month of the final examination.

The Law Society offers various supports and reasonable accommodations to encourage sustainable growth and learning. A reasonable accommodation might be any action that helps alleviate a substantial disadvantage.

Reasonable and appropriate accommodations and other such supports are determined on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the individual's certified disability/specific learning difficulty.  It is important that a formal and timely application is made for such supports so that the appropriate supports can be identified and provided where necessary.

Candidates will receive an email one week before the results are issued with information on how to access their results on our website.

Results

Results are emailed to the address given on the candidate’s application form approximately 6-8 weeks after the last examination.

Rechecks

A candidate may apply to the Law Society for a re-check of any examination script which he or she is deemed not to have passed, provided that the application for such a re-check is received in writing by the Law Society within fourteen days following the issue of the examination results, accompanied by a recheck fee of €150 per examination script for which a re-check is sought.
