During 2023, over 22,000 attendances were recorded at 169 Law Society CPD courses and events, designed and delivered by solicitors to meet your professional development requirements. Each year10 Law Society Skillnet Cluster events are held in conjunction with Bar Associations around the country. The next event takes place in Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare on 20 June.  

Having access to guidance to support your day-to-day work is a must. Did you know the Law Society’s website offers over 960 practice notes and 180 free precedents, while our Library enables member access to another 800 Irish precedents? The library also handles thousands of research queries (over 4,000 from solicitors in 2023) and continues to evolve and expand. Subject Guides launched in 2022 offer a one-stop-shop of resources so you can stay informed about different areas of practice, such as Conveyancing which has received over 8,000 views to date. 

The Law Society’s Four Courts Consultation meeting rooms has proven to be a vital facility for practitioners. Solicitors made 6,814 bookings last year, while also availing of much-needed office facilities like printing, phone charging, Commissioner for Oaths and court stamping. 

The Women in Leadership and Returners programmes are available to members for career support. 494 solicitors have been involved in the leadership programme since it started mentoring women solicitors to career advancement in 2018. The 2024 leadership programme is still open for applications until 14 June if interested in being a mentor or a mentee.

The Law Society’s Time to Think peer support program is designed to support the leadership capabilities of senior in-house lawyers and has been working with eight senior leaders in the 2024 pilot. Wellbeing initiatives like the subsidised therapeutic counselling service LegalMind and our High Impact Performance series of webinars, attended by almost 2,000 solicitors over 12 months, are available to support you as needed in your work and professional lives.  

Representing the profession on matters of consequence, such as Enduring Powers of Attorney, Family Justice, Legal Aid fees, Conveyancing and Probate is ongoing. Advocating on your behalf demonstrates the Law Society’s commitment to supporting law reform in Ireland and helping to shape a justice system that reflects the needs of a modern, progressive, and democratic Irish society. In the past 12 months, 25 justice and law reform submissions have been made, as well as the many phone calls, meetings, emails, and letters that are also required to deliver this valuable service for the profession and your clients.
