Law Society of Ireland launches free online course
The Law Society of Ireland is launching a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), designed to give individuals and businesses a greater understanding of the law in this digital era.
39 of the world’s top 40 technology companies have bases in Ireland and Dublin’s ‘Silicon Docks’ has become a high-tech hub for Europe. It is of vital importance that all organisations and their people understand the law in order to be fully compliant and operate effectively.
On Tuesday 12 May the Law Society is launching this major initiative to highlight and explore Ireland’s relationship with the technology industry from a legal perspective.
Easily accessible and free for everyone, this MOOC will be delivered online over six weeks and will feature contributions from technology experts, leading lawyers and industry leaders. Each week’s content will be one hour long, comprising a mix of short lectures, recorded interviews and presentations along with course work.
Over the six weeks the MOOC will examine the importance of regulation, data protection, online privacy and the legal implications of rapidly-growing use of social media. The course will further explore the opportunities for new start-ups and exit strategies for entrepreneurs in mature tech businesses.
The course will be of particular interest to those working in the technology sector, entrepreneurs, small and large businesses, legal professionals and students.
