Principal at Kieran Mulcahy Solicitors
Background
I attended the University of Limerick where I studied Business Studies. I majored in Accounting and Finance. Part of our course provided for the choosing of a minor elective and I chose Law. I instantly took a liking to it and I knew it was the career for me.
I qualified as a Solicitor in 2005 and in April 2009, I opened my own practice, Kieran Mulcahy Solicitors at 70 O'Connell Street in Limerick. I applied myself diligently to the practice and I worked as hard as I could to build it up and to serve all of my clients.
Career
In order to augment my qualification, I undertook Law Society Diplomas in Commercial Conveyancing, Employment Law and also in Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring. I thereafter studied to become a Notary Public and I completed courses to become an Accredited Mediator.
I wanted to put myself and my firm in a position to offer a wide range of expertise. Thankfully the business grew quickly and continuously. I took the decision to take on new staff whenever I sensed that it was time to do so. Today, we have four very experienced Solicitors together with support staff and we have plans of expanding further in the near future.
Looking back, I think having had experience in general practice served me well and I think my willingness to take on a diverse range of work has helped my firm to grow in a number of areas.
Advice
Overall, I think law is a highly interesting and challenging career and if you're prepared to put in the hard work, it is very rewarding. One of the things which I like most about my job is the people whom you meet, clients with whom you'll forge trust and friendships, who will remain loyal to you and also the many colleagues with whom you'll share enduring friendships. I'm happy to say that I have never for one moment regretted choosing the legal path.
