LSRA Review Committee
Learn more about the Legal Services Regulatory Authority's Review Committee and what it does.
- Regulation
- Complaints
- Legal Services Regulatory Authority
Membership and powers
The Review Committee is made up of three people: two lay people and a solicitor (where the complaint relates to a solicitor).
The Review Committee will review all of the documentation available to it (excluding all previous attempts to resolve informally) and make one of the following decisions:
- Confirm the determination of the Authority
- Send the complaint back to the Authority to be dealt with again
- Issue one or more direction(s) to the solicitor
Appealing a decision of the Review Committee
If a solicitor is dissatisfied with the determination of the Review Committee, they can appeal to the High Court within 21 days for an Order directing the Review Committee to rescind or vary the determination as the Court thinks appropriate.
If the determination of the Review Committee is accepted, it becomes binding after 21 days.
The Review Committee only considers decisions made by the Authority’s executive team, and not determinations made by the Complaints Committee. The Review Committee does not facilitate the parties' attendance. A review is paper-based only, with each party invited to make written statements.
