Planning ahead: Legal experts address Limerick solicitors at major Law Society conference
Solicitors from across Limerick and Clare attended the Essential Solicitor Update 2022, a major legal conference, which took place in the Strand Hotel, Limerick on Thursday 30 June 2022.
Organised by Law Society Skillnet in association with Limerick and Clare Bar Associations, the conference is the fourth in an annual series of specialised training events designed to support local solicitors in communities throughout Ireland to upskill on topics related to practice.
Solicitor Derek Walsh, Sellors Solicitors, is President of Limerick Bar Association and co-chaired the event alongside Pamela Clancy, Cashin Clancy Solicitors, President of Clare Bar Association. Mr Walsh said, “As busy solicitors running our own businesses, the Essential Solicitor Update provides a welcome opportunity for solicitors across Limerick and Clare to come together to collaborate, refocus and upskill on essential areas of practice.
“Legal experts in litigation, conveyancing and probate addressed the conference providing key updates on matters of importance to local clients. The conference also equipped attendees with practical tools for running our businesses, including how to protect our businesses against cybercrime and dealing with clients.”

The Essential Solicitor Update also discussed updates on delays relating to the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) legislation and recent updates on the Fair Deal Scheme.
“Solicitors deal with clients of all ages with varying needs within their communities,” explained Mr Walsh.
“We understand that caring for our loved ones can seem daunting, whether that is making decisions on their behalf or establishing plans for their long-term care needs.
“Throughout uncertain times, your local solicitor is in your corner. We are here to advise on the best practical plans for your loved ones and talk you through initiatives like the Fair Deal Scheme and how it can work for your family’s personal circumstances.
“Solicitors also understand the importance of making a will, and ensuring it is kept up-to-date. We are here to support our clients at every stage of life. We are by their sides, working together to plan ahead and keep personal affairs in order.
“Solicitors are legal experts so if you need trusted advice, talk to your local solicitor.”
