Director General Mark Garrett will be joined by panellists including Pat Leahy (The Irish Times) and Sarah Carey (columnist and broadcaster), discussing how issues of justice and law reform have featured in the campaign, and answering questions from the profession. 

2024 is the year of elections with nearly 50% of the world's population going to the polls. We are seeing challenges to election integrity, information, and incumbency, and this event offers a platform for both Irish and internal perspectives on these important issues.

Pat Leahy

Pat Leahy Pat Leahy is the Political Editor of The Irish Times. He has also authored several books, including The Price of Power: Inside Ireland's Crisis Coalition and Showtime: The Inside Story of Fianna Fáil in Power

Leahy attended Rockwell College – a boarding school in Co. Tipperary – and went on to obtain a degree in Law from UCD. He is a former Reuters fellow at Oxford University. 

Leahy is a contributor to The Business Post and a number of radio programmes. He has also written and presented a number of documentaries for RTE television, and is a co-host of The Irish Times’ Inside Politics Podcast.

Sarah Carey

Sarah CareySarah Carey is an Irish columnist, broadcaster and communications consultant. She writes for the Irish Independent. From March 2011 until August 2017 she presented Talking Point on Newstalk.  She is a former columnist for The Sunday Times, The Herald and The Irish Times.

Carey has a degree in history from Trinity College Dublin, and a post-graduate diploma in Business Studies from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in University College, Dublin.

She has worked as a communications consultant for many companies, particularly in public affairs and infrastructure.
