Law Society Psychological Services has launched a toolkit to embed psychological safety in legal teams.

Launch of psychological services toolkit

The recent lunchtime launch event welcomed a full President’s Hall of solicitors from all sectors; large and medium firms, in-house, public sector, small practices, learning and development professionals and HR leaders.

Law Society President Eamon Harrington opened the discussion on psychological safety by noting law is a tough but rewarding job that requires the support of family, friends and colleagues to be done well.

This new resource is designed for solicitors and legal professionals at all levels. In a fireside chat between Katie da Gama and toolkit author Eadine Hickey, the event heard uses and benefits of the toolkit to:

  • understand psychological safety and why it matters,
  • provide clear guidance for legal workplaces seeking a more open and supportive team environment; and
  • to get teams thinking together about the link between high performance and psychological safety.

The ultimate goal of this toolkit is to help teams reach their own potential. Performance is not diluted by spending time understanding psychological safety. In fact, the safer a workplace environment is, the greater engagement is across all teams.

“Psychological Safety has been proven through research to be a key for unlocking team learning and team performance. It’s about cultivating a learning culture where team members can feel comfortable having uncomfortable conversations, trouble-shooting difficult and complex issues, raising concerns and ideas and learning from mistakes without fear of consequences. It’s about creating an environment where team members can grow and thrive and deliver their best work for the organisation.” Eadine Hickey, Resonate Leadership
