New certificate course for Legal Secretaries starts in November

Final applications are being accepted for the Law Society’s new Certificate in Legal Skills for Legal Secretaries commencing on 5 November.

The Certificate is ideally suited to legal secretaries seeking to expand their legal skills and obtain a legal qualification, and it is also suitable for office managers, personal assistants, office administrators and secretaries working in non-legal offices who wish to gain the practical skills and knowledge required to work in a legal office. 

The course has been designed to give students a greater understanding of many of the most common legal specialisations they are likely to encounter in legal offices. The focus of the certificate is to enhance the practical skills and knowledge of legal secretaries and others who wish to gain greater experience in the skills required to work in a legal office. The certificate will provide substantial value for legal secretaries, as well as for their employers.  

Modules  

  • Module 1: Introduction to the Irish legal system   

  • Module 2: Litigation 

  • Module 3: Conveyancing 

  • Module 4: Wills and probate  

  • Module 5: Company law 

  • Module 6: Family Law and employment law 

  • Module 7: Legal skills  

  • Module 8: Running a legal office 

Pathway to Legal Executive qualification 

Completion of this course will give applicants credits towards a new Legal Executive qualification which will be offered by the Law Society in 2025.
