New course starts in October - Certificate in Criminology and Criminal Justice

Launching on 27 October, the brand new Certificate in Criminology and Criminal Justice, covers key topics relating to the area, including forensic psychology, criminal behaviour, the role of policing agencies and sentencing.

This course also provides comprehensive coverage of the key aspects of the discipline of criminology - the study of crime, criminal behaviours and the criminal justice system.  The certificate offers an examination of the fundamental characteristics of a range of crimes to include serious crime, juvenile crime, white-collar crime, cybercrime, organised crime and the role of transnational policing agencies. There is also a focus sentencing and retribution, rehabilitation and restoration. Forensic psychology and its nexus with the criminal justice system will also feature.

Autumn 2022 module structure:

Module 1: Introduction to forensic criminology
Module 2: Personality disorders and crime.
Module 3: Aggression and violence
Module 4: Introduction to the criminal justice system
Module 5: Juvenile crime
Module 6: White collar and cybercrime
Module 7: Penology, prisons and prisoners
Module 8: Victimology, victims and victimisation
Module 9: Sentencing: Retribution, rehabilitation, restoration

This course is suitable for solicitors, barristers and trainees across all practice disciplines. It will also appeal to the members of An Garda Síochána, The Probation Service, Irish Prison Service, those working in the area of criminal justice and professionals working in other connected sectors.
