Government set to fill Court of Appeal vacancy

The Government has agreed to nominate High Court judge Mr Justice Michael MacGrath for appointment as an ordinary judge of the Court of Appeal.

The Appeal vacancy arose after the retirement of Mr Justice Robert Haughton last month.

Mr Justice MacGrath has served in the High Court since 2018 and was appointed to the Special Criminal Courts in 2020.

Circuit Court

Ronan Munro SC and barrister Catherine White have also been nominated as ordinary judges of the Circuit Court.

The Circuit Court vacancies came up after the retirement of Judge Rosemary Horgan last December, and the resignation of former judge Gerard O’Brien in January.

The Government has advised President Higgins of the nominations in accordance with constitutional practice.
