Solicitor Geoffrey Shannon now a Circuit Court judge

Former Law Society director and solicitor Dr Geoffrey Shannon has made his declaration as a judge of the Circuit Court.

The declaration took place at the Supreme Court this morning (25 May) before Chief Justice Mr Donal O’Donnell.

Dr Shannon was educated at NUI, Galway and University College Dublin, and qualified as a solicitor in 1996.

Senior counsel

He chaired the Adoption Authority of Ireland from 2007-20, and was named a senior counsel in 2020.

Dr Shannon was also Special Rapporteur on Child Protection for the Irish Government from 2006-19.

His independent report into historical child sex-abuse allegations in St John Ambulance was published earlier this year.
