Human-rights lecture focuses on armed conflict

This year’s Human Rights and Equality Committee Lecture 2024 will focus on human rights and international armed conflict.

The speaker, Professor Fionnula Ní Aoláin, is concurrently Regents Professor and Robina Professor of Law, Public Policy and Society at the University of Minnesota Law School, and Professor of Law at Queen’s University, Belfast.

The recipient of numerous academic awards and honours, Professor Ní Aoláin (pictured) has published extensively in the fields of emergency powers, counter-terrorism and human rights, conflict regulation, transitional justice, and sex-based violence in times of war.

She was United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism (2017- 2023).

Free event

The event is being organised by the Law Society’s Human Rights and Equality Committee, in partnership with Law Society Professional Training.

The live Zoom webinar takes place on Wednesday 11 September (6pm to 7pm) and is worth one general CPD hour by e-learning.

It will be chaired by Gary Lee (solicitor, Office of the General Solicitor for Minors and Wards of Court).
