Cork event to focus on attracting talent

Law Society Skillnet is hosting a lunchtime seminar on attracting and retaining legal talent later this month.

The in-person event takes place on Thursday 13 June at the Imperial Hotel, Cork (12.30pm to 2pm).

The seminar aims to provide practitioners with guidance on how to attract and retain trainees and qualified legal practitioners.

It is suitable for all practitioners seeking to recruit legal staff at the trainee and qualified level.

The seminar is worth 1.5 CPD hours for professional development and solicitor wellbeing.

Topics and presenters

Topics include:

  • A guide to having a trainee solicitor, and how a trainee can fit into your firm,
  • A guide to the new Professional Practice Course (PPC) – including the hybrid PPC,
  • Attracting talent,
  • The interview process,
  • Networking,
  • Diversity and inclusion,
  • Using a recruiter,
  • Retaining talent,
  • What a trainee and a newly qualified solicitor want from their workplace.

  • Ian Ryan (solicitor and trainee executive, Law Society),
  • Rory O’Boyle (solicitor and the head of the PPC, Law Society),
  • John Macklin (legal-recruitment expert),
  • Michelle Cross (newly qualified solicitor, JW O’Donovan Solicitors and member, SLA Traineeship Committee).
